How many times have I heard that!!!
We often hear the two words used erroneously as if they indicated the same professional figure, but this is not quite the case.
The oenologist is the one who produces wine, has the technical knowledge to carry out a fermentation, and solve any problems if they arise. he knows how to manage a vineyard , understand if there are treatments to be done against fungal diseases, and knows understand when the grapes are ripening strong>.
The sommelier does not deal with this, but rather has strong communication skills, and is able to tell the product that the winemaker creates managing to involve the person in front of him. He also has detailed knowledge about serving a bottle, the do's and don'ts of serving, and is very good at creating very interesting pairings between food and wine.
Two very different figures but which complement each other within a sector where there is need for both professionals!
