ITALIAN LEGISLATION\u2026 BUT GOING UP THE WARRANTY PYRAMID<\/strong> DO WE REALLY HAVE SOMETHING MORE? MORE QUALITY OR MORE TRACEABILITY?<\/p>\n

What is guaranteed?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The wine according to the EC regulation 1234\/2007<\/strong> is the product obtained exclusively from the alcoholic fermentation of fresh grapes whether they are pressed or not.<\/p>\n

We can easily start with table wines, wines which are not regulated in any way but which only require the indication of color (Today defined as "Italian wines<\/strong>").<\/p>\n

Going up we find the wines IGT or IGP<\/strong> (Typical or Protected Geographical Indication), are regulated by a production disciplinary, indicate the territory of origin and can also indicate the vine if it is present for at least 85%, or identify a mono-varietal wine.<\/p>\n

Going up again we find the DOC or DOP<\/strong> (Denomination of Controlled or Protected Origin) with an even more restrictive disciplinary where the admitted vines are far fewer and the specific qualifications are indicated in a much more specific disciplinary.<\/p>\n

Higher still we find the DOCG or DOP<\/strong> (Guaranteed or Protected Denomination).<\/p>\n

In addition to more rigorous specifications, a qualitative analysis is carried out on the wines, which guarantees that the wine is correct to be placed on the market. This does not at all mean that wine is better than others, perhaps even with a less restrictive classification.<\/p>\n

Then we have the subzones<\/strong> which identify a restriction of a wider area such as a DOC.<\/p>\n

We can also get to products that identify a sort of company "CRU" with wines from certain company vineyards, which have the term VINEYARD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* In Italy there are 73 DOCGs, more than 300 DOCs and about 115 IGTs.<\/u><\/p>\n

* DOC wines that acquire fame and value after 10 years can become DOCG.<\/u><\/p>\n

* IGTs give the producer a lot of room for maneuver and sometimes very noble wines of considerable value are obtained with the Geographical indication. <\/u><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
